Mel Ohlinger is an artist, entrepreneur, and storyteller, and the creative engine behind OhmCo and The Ohlinger Institute... and as you might have guessed, she's also the Mom in the story. Known for blending strategy with whimsy, Mel has spent nearly two decades helping carwash owners build stronger brands through design, technology, and clear communication. Her work spans websites, social media systems, signage, children’s illustration, and AI-powered tools, always with a focus on making complex things feel simple, human, and a little bit magical.

Mel began designing professionally in 2007 and quickly developed a reputation for translating ideas into visuals that connect. In the carwash world, she carved out a unique niche—supporting operators with branding, digital infrastructure, and creative storytelling that elevates both customer experience and company culture. She has spoken at national industry events, represented small businesses at the White House, and partnered with operators across the country to build brands that last.



In 2025, she founded The Ohlinger Institute, a playful imprint dedicated to books and creative projects. Her first children’s book, Christmas To-Go, was written, illustrated, and designed as a gift to her family—a celebration of humor, teamwork, and everyday magic.

Mel lives in Wisconsin with her husband Mike and their daughters, Anthem and Iona, where creativity and shenanigans are considered core family values.
